What is Squalamine and is it effective against cancer?

Squalamine is a steroid compound that has anticancer effects but definitive evidence is lacking. Squalamine is a compound derived from dogfish shark tissues. Squalamine has been shown to block the growth of new blood vessels in laboratory studies. Clinical studies have shown that the injectable form of squalamine is safe in patients with solid tumors, but it is not known if it can treat cancer. Squalamine was also shown to inhibit growth factors in endothelial cells and has been studied in cancer.
