What is Vinpocetine and does it help cancer?

Vinpocetine is a synthetic compound derived from the leaves of the vinca plants which may be useful against some cerebrovascular disorders. It has not been shown to treat or prevent cancer. Laboratory studies suggest some anticancer effects, but this has not been studied in humans. Vinpocetine inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells through apoptosis.

This is a   type of cell death in which a series of steps in a cell lead to its death. This is one method the body uses to get rid of unneeded or abnormal cells. The process of apoptosis may be blocked in cancer cells. Vinpocetine can also increase the effects of radiation by increasing tumor oxygenation.
