Does Licorice help against cancer?

Licorice is a flowering plant of the bean family. Preclinical studies have shown that licorice has anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective properties. Licorice also demonstrated estrogenic effects, which are similar to female sex hormones, reduced cardiotoxicity associated with doxorubicin, and improved the anticancer effects of cyclophosphamide. Cardiotoxicity is a condition when there is damage to the heart muscle. As a result of cardiotoxicity, your heart may not be able to pump blood throughout your body as well. Licorice demonstrated chemo-preventive effects through apoptosis which is a type of death of cells which occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism’s growth or development. This was shown in human in one type of oral called squamous cell carcinoma cells.
