Does Lemongrass help against cancer?

Lemongrass or Cymbopogon is a plant of the grass family. Lemongrass has antioxidant, anticancer properties but it has not been studied in cancer patients to treat or prevent cancer. Although test tube and studies in animals showed that compounds in lemongrass can stop growth of cancer or cause the cancer cell to die, human data is lacking. Lemongrass has not been studied in cancer patients. Several ingredients in lemongrass show anticancer activity. The active compound in lemongrass stimulates apoptosis in human leukemia and breast cancer cells. Apoptosis is type of cell death. This is one method the body uses to get rid of unneeded or abnormal cells. The process of apoptosis may be blocked in cancer cells.
