Does is Lutein help against cancer?

A diet containing lutein-rich vegetables and fruits may lower the risk of some cancers. Lutein is naturally occurring carotenoids. Lutein is synthesized only by plants in high quantities in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and yellow carrots. Current evidence is not sufficient to know if lutein is useful in preventing macular degeneration or cataracts. Because it is an antioxidant, cancer prevention activity has been proposed, but no studies have proved this. Scientists also think that lutein may stimulate the immune system, stop DNA from mutating, or stop the growth of pre-cancerous cells. Increased lutein consumption has been associated with decreased risks for some types of kidney, bladder, and breast cancers, but not in lung or prostate cancers, and effects on risk of cervical or colon cancer are conflicting.
