Kybella injection is a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid. It is an injection just like other fillers however, it targets fat in the lower region of the head, dissolving it and making the jawline more contoured and the neck more streamlined. After Kybella starts to reduce fat, your skin lifts allowing a new face contour to shine through.

There are several precautions to avoid using aspirin or NSAIDs and avoiding caffeine with PRP therapy. Consuming caffeine after PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma) treatment is discouraged as it can increase blood flow and dilate blood vessels, potentially affecting the healing process of the treated area and worsening bruising and swelling. It’s best to avoid caffeine for a period recommended by your healthcare provider. Continue to avoid these nutritional supplements for at least 10 days after your procedure: Vitamin E, Flax Oil, Fish Oil, Vitamin A, Curcumin, Turmeric, Aloe, and Astaxanthin. Kybella Injections

Before the treatment, please set up a consultation with one of our trained clinicians. Together you will determine a personalized treatment plan. Kybella is not a surgery and does not require prior anesthesia, however, we usually will suggest to our patients that we numb treated areas with an anesthetic prior to the Kybella injection. The injection takes about 15 minutes, and we only use microneedles to minimize any discomfort. For optimal results, a series of Kybella injections is necessary, usually a month apart from each other. What is the Recovery Process?

It’s like other injectables. There is little downtime and a short recovery process. Side effects may include bruising and swelling after the treatment and can last up to a week but can be easily covered with makeup starting the day after the treatment.

Well, there are several options but we feel that liposuction of the neck is the most effective, reliable, safest and easiest to perform with the most dramatic results!  But as a start, let’s review some non-surgical options as well:

With the release of Kybella, an FDA-approved injectable that targets submental (under the chin) fat, questions have been raised about the pros and cons of the new FDA-approved Kybella injections (non-surgical) versus an in-office liposuction procedure (surgical).

Below is a series of frequently asked questions about treatment of the “double chin” to help clarify treatment options to make an informed decision about which procedure may be best for you.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a fat-absorbing substance found in our bodies naturally.  When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells, an inflammatory reaction ensues, and the body will eventually clear related waste products. Once destroyed, the destroyed fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Is there any downtime after Kybella?

While Kybella is a non-surgical procedure, moderate to severe swelling can occur for up to two weeks following injection. It is advised that you NOT have this procedure done within a couple weeks of any major event as individual responses to this treatment can vary.

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area.  Patients describe “swelling up like a bullfrog” after treatment, with several weeks to months of swelling before it resolves.  KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness as we follow you at The Medical Clinic NYC www.icrmc.org

How many Kybella treatments are required for noticeable results?

At least 2-4 treatments, spaced at least one month apart are usually recommended.  Up to 6 treatment sessions are often recommended.  This is different from liposuction, which involves a single surgical procedure with results.

Can Kybella be used elsewhere in the body?

It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.  At this point, usually 2-3 injections are required for a subtle result.  There has been significant swelling and discomfort in patients.  Liposuction is an alternative surgical option.
