Does Arginine help against cancer?
Arginine is an amino acid that is used to build proteins. Although it is used in clinical applications, evidence on its use for other conditions is lacking and in some instances, may increase the risk for harm. However, an analysis suggests that arginine supplementation may increase markers of inflammation in patients with cancer, so, patients should use caution and discuss any use of arginine with their treating physician. In cancer patients, results are mixed for use of arginine-enriched formulas to improve wound healing. Interestingly, arginine deprivation-based treatments are also being investigated as potential cancer treatments.
